Aside from our weekly door-to-door delivery of organic rice, consumers can now buy affordable and quality organic products of any variants – from rice, native chicken, fresh coconuts and coco-based products, vegetables, corn, roselle tea and wine, bananas, and root crops anytime – with the official opening today of the Organic Store of Agro-Eco Philippines at Block 37, Lot 59, Gmelina Street, Phase 4, Green Meadows Subdivision, Sto. Nino, Tugbok, Davao City. It is open from Monday to Saturday. Please contact Julie Aranda at 09126338066 for your inquiries and product orders.

The store, including its name ‘MALLING-KAWAZ,’ underwent a series of healthy discussions among the farmers, is managed by the Social Enterprise Committee of Agro-Eco Philippines in Davao Region, and designed to create more economic benefits for those farmers practicing agroecology http://www.fao.org/3/i9037en/I9037EN.pdf. Farmers have two ways to earn more: by selling their produce to the enlightened consumers at fair price, and by giving them with fair share of the net income from the store operations at the end of the year.

In the words of Jun Galenzoga, the Coordinator for Davao Region and also the organization’s Focal Person for Social Enterprise, Gender and Network Strengthening: “opening a store like this is a concrete way forward to deliver thousands of small-scale farmers out of poverty and hunger, and improving the local economies in a holistic and sustainable way.” He further added that “I am very happy to see a transformation like this after years of studying theology – and working with the People of God.”
Many thanks to Fr. Canisius “Dodong” Cantilang, Sch.P. for blessing the store and the offices of the National Filipino Farmers’ Seed Network and Agro-Eco Philippines.

The store not only sells organic products from Davao Region but those products from other regions also, recognizing that our organized farmers out there are making the same innovations and progress. Similar stores might be operating in Northern and Western Mindanao in the coming months.
