Since the lockdown period started, Edil Muyco stayed 24/7 in our tranquil 14-hectare organic farm situated in Maluko, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon with the chilling mountain winds comforting him at night and the sounds of the birds playing on the branches of the trees giving music to his ears, and sometimes those from the trucks struggling to pass through the zigzag Maluko highway. Most of us who are used to live in the cities with all the electronic gadgets within our reach and with family members to talk with anytime would not last for a month under these conditions. Edil has obviously made some personal sacrifices of being alone from his family who are living in Mlang, Cotabato.
His actions driven by his sheer determinations produced more positive results: increased the diversity of crops, saved and shared seeds https://sehen-und-handeln.ch/saatgut/ to the farmers in Mindanao and Luzon, improved the chicken component, produced more processed products (coconut and roselle-based), and doubled the monthly income of the farm. For those of you who’ve bought roselle products, vinegar, coco syrup, fruits and vegetables from Agro-Eco Philippines at our office or through our door-to-door delivery service, it’s produced and made by Edil.
Edil has concretized the elements of Agroecology http://www.fao.org/agroecology/home/en/.
But when asked: what are the improvements in the farm? He remains to be a quiet guy, the same Edil that I used to know for the past 15 years, who would always say: “mas maayo nga ang buhat maoy pasultihon, kaysa damo istorya pero walay buhat.”
This is my simple appreciation to the sacrifices of Edil and his commitment to improve the farm entrusted to him 24/7. It is still fresh in my memory the decision he had courageously took three years ago when he volunteered, among all farmer leaders, as Farm Manager with a meager monthly allowance and hundreds of miles away from his family.
Come and visit ARC. Edil is always willing to share with you his developed technologies, improved planting materials, and saved seeds. Contact him anytime through these nos. 09302404029 and 09264114948 if you want to know the services of Agro-Eco Philippines’ Resource Center (ARC).
